The Four Fold Story

The Four Fold adventure began on the PCT back in 2016. Many hikers spend months or years preparing for a trip, but I decided to go quickly, and only had a few months to learn everything I could about American long-distance trails. I grabbed all the gear I had and jumped on a plane to San Diego. I learned on the go, and for the first few weeks adapted what I carried as I hiked. I chose all of my gear based on what I actually needed and used every day on the trail.

A few weeks into the adventure I was in desperate need of a wallet and tired of chasing credit cards, cash, and pennies around my pack. I was a maker back home and missed my tools and materials, so I began imagining the ideal hiker’s wallet as the miles slid beneath my feet. Within a few days I found myself at a trail angel’s house with a scrap of Tyvek in hand and sitting beside a sewing machine. I brought the design I imagined to life. I was so happy with it that I quickly made six more for my trail family that they still use today.

After the trail came to an end my journey with Four Fold began. Over five years I integrated all the comments and feedback from prototype users into the wallets I create today. They share the footprint of my original design and are now made with even more durable (and beautiful) materials.

It is my hope that, from one hiker to another, these wallets may lighten the load a little for other adventurous souls.
